01

Working backwards from the day

Start with the time you need to be there and count back. Include travel, parking or public transport, getting dressed and any time you want to sit quietly before you leave.

Then add a margin. Delays happen, and a margin turns a possible stress into a minor inconvenience. Write the timeline down with clock times so you are not doing sums on the morning itself.

02

A pack list you can actually use

If you are getting ready somewhere other than home, or need to refresh during the event, a pack list prevents forgotten items. Build it from what you already own and use, rather than from a generic list.

Group items by when you need them: before you leave, during the event and on the way home. That grouping makes it quick to check that everything is in the bag.

  • Outfit, shoes and any accessories
  • Make-up and hair items you already use
  • Small repair items, such as tissues or a spare layer
  • Phone charger, tickets or directions
03

Outfit and make-up preferences

Decide early how you want to feel: comfortable, polished, understated, bold. That one word helps guide choices about clothes and make-up without needing a long list of rules.

Consider trying things in advance. Wearing the outfit and doing your usual make-up on a quiet evening shows you what works and how long it takes. Follow each product's own label for how to use it.

04

Access, time and the occasion planner

Think about the venue's access. Check how you will get in, how far you will walk and whether you will be standing or seated. These details shape what you wear and carry.

The occasion planner is where you can keep all of this together: timeline, pack list, preferences and notes. You control what goes in it, and it is a record of your plan, not advice on what to do.

05

Make the handovers clear

When more than one person is involved, a shared assumption can become the missing detail. Write down who is carrying the bag, who has the address and which time is the departure time rather than the arrival time. Check the organiser’s instructions for the actual occasion.

For example, “leave at 10” is more useful when it also names the meeting point and the person arranging transport. Keep contact and access details somewhere you can reach without searching through a long chat. Your beauty preparation then sits inside a workable plan for the whole day.

TRY ONE USEFUL THING

Write your arrival time and count back to your start time, then record the pack list in the occasion planner. If you want to ask about anything first, see A first conversation.
